Chinese astronauts go hands-on, manually dock with orbiting module

DNP Chinese astronauts go handson, manually dock with orbiting module

Looks like China continues to add to its space cred after recently joining the rarefied ranks of countries that have successfully docked craft in the final frontier. Fresh off from the recent joining of the Shenzhou 9 capsule with the Tiangong 1 orbiting module, China's three astronauts have now replicated the feat manually, according to the Washington Post . For the uninitiated, the first docking was done via remote control from the ground. The mission has had plenty of firsts for China so far, including the country's first female astronaut. It also serves as a precursor to establishing China's first permanent space station, a 60-ton facility that's about a sixth of the size of the International Space Station but is slightly bigger than NASA's old Skylab. 'Cause sometimes, you just gotta have your own space in space, you know?

(AP) ? Egypt's new president-elect, Islamist Mohammed Morsi, moved into the office once occupied by ousted leader Hosni Mubarak and started consultations Monday on forming his team and a new government, an aide said.

Morsi was declared on Sunday the winner of Egypt's first free presidential election in its modern history, following a tight race with Mubarak's last Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.

The campaign had deeply polarized the country, pitting a former regime official and former military man? feared to be a continuation of Mubarak's autocratic rule but viewed by some as an agent of stability? against an Islamist.

Many supported Morsi as a representative of the uprising that toppled the old regime and a chance to challenge the military. But Morsi was equally feared among youth groups behind the uprising, which campaigned for a secular democratic state, and among many of the country's Christian minority. Almost half of the voters boycotted the runoff vote last weekend.

The victory of Morsi, the first civilian president to take over the country's top job, is a stunning achievement for the Islamist group that remained for most of its eight decades a shadowy organization targeted by successive regimes. He pledged he will be a "president for all Egyptians."

Now, Morsi faces a daunting struggle for power with the country's still-dominant military rulers who took over after Mubarak's ouster in the uprising.

Just days before a winner was announced, the ruling generals made a series of decisions that gave them sweeping powers, undercutting the authorities of the president, including passing the state budget __ and granted military police broad powers to detain civilians.

The generals, who promised to transfer power to an elected leader by July 1, say the moves were designed to fill a power vacuum and to ensure that no one person monopolizes decision-making until a new constitution is drafted.

Two days before the runoff, a decision by a top Egyptian court packed with former regime appointees also dissolved the country's first freely elected parliament, dominated by Islamists, including Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood. This left the military council also in charge of legislating duties.

With the parliament dissolved, it is not clear where Morsi will be sworn in. Authorities say he could be sworn before the country's highest court, but his group and supporters are pressing for the parliament to be reinstated, arguing that the court decision only disputed a third of the house's seats.

Thousands of Morsi supporters, backed by some liberal and secular youth groups who were behind the uprising, vowed to press on with their protest in Cairo's Tahrir Square to pressure the ruling generals to rescind their decrees and reinstate the parliament.

Tens of thousands had spent the night in Tahrir in joyous celebration of Morsi's win. By Monday morning, few had stayed in the square, which after nearly a week of a sit-ins, was reopened for traffic but a protesters' tent camp remained in place. Brotherhood officials said the protests will continue until the military responds to their demands.

On Sunday, President Barack Obama telephoned the U.S.-educated Morsi to congratulate him on his victory and offer continued support for Egypt's transition to democracy. The White House said Morsi expressed appreciation for Obama's call and "welcomed U.S. support for Egypt's transition."

Ali said the 60-year-old Morsi arrived at the presidential office on Monday for official meetings and consultations. He said his priority is to form a working presidential team until he finishes consultation over nominating vice presidents.

"His priority is the stability on the political scene," said Yasser Ali, a spokesman for Morsi's presidential campaign.

In an effort to rally support and heal national divisions, Morsi vowed to appoint diverse deputies, including a woman and a Christian. He also has reached out to other presidential hopefuls, who garnered popular support in the first round of elections.

Ali , the spokesman, said there were also consultations to form a national coalition government. The military-backed government is expected to resign later Monday, according to legal tradition after a new president is announced. Ali said he anticipates the government, headed by Kamal el-Ganzouri, would remain in a caretaker role because forming a new one "will take time."

Morsi faces enormous challenges of improving the economy and maintaining law and order ? both of which deteriorated in the post-Mubarak period. He has also promised he would nominate a non-Brotherhood member to head the government.

Personal Development: Tips And Tricks For A Better You

Measure your progress daily or even hourly. Whether you are cleaning up that junk room or studying for a final examination, use some method to keep track of how much you have progressed towards your goal. You might just check individual tasks off a list. You might take digital photos of your progress and regularly mail them to a friend!

In the digital age, you need not only keep your physical space free from clutter and mess, but you need to keep your digital one clean too. For many people, this means organizing your e-mail. If you are someone who gets thousands a day, keep them organized so that you can keep up with them. It?s impossible to handle that many in a single day, but by organizing them, you can get many more done.

Don?t be afraid to ask for help. This can be one of the most important things to know on your self help journey. Asking for help from those around you who are qualified is in fact a sign of strength. You get the benefit of someone who is objective and a bit more experienced than you are.

Give the tips that you have learned about self help at least thirty days to work for you. If you try a tip for only a day or two, you are likely to miss the many benefits to be reaped from them by sticking with it a bit longer.

Yoga doesn?t just have benefits for your physical health, it can help improve your mood, too. As a result, it becomes a valuable self-help tool. Practicing yoga helps to calm the mind, which leaves you less vulnerable to stress. Even simple techniques, such as controlled deep breathing, can help you to relax more effectively and reduce your anxiety each day.

Personal development is often most successful when you have a clear goal in mind. Simply striving for ?improvement? will take you far, but will make it much harder for you to reach your ultimate goals. Specific goals that you can clearly visualize will allow you to remain focused on why you?re striving for improvement.

Time management is key to living a well-balanced life. There are always more things to do in a day than there is time for those things. You have to be selective and you have to be confident in choosing what to do with your time. Have goals, make plans and when the unexpected happens, embrace it if its something that makes you happy. You must practice time management.

One great tip with regards to personal development is to make a plan and stick to it. Creating a plan to achieve a goal is great, but it is only half the battle. Understand that setting up goals and making plans is easy, executing them is the hard part.

Guessing how people percieve you or what they think about you might cost an opportunity for a great friendship. No one can read another person?s mind or heart, so try not to constantly worry about what other people think. Be yourself and be honest, and let time produce the truest of friends.

Personal development always starts from within. If you are trying to improve yourself for a friend or loved one you are almost certainly doomed to failure. Everything you are doing should be first and foremost for yourself. If you can remind yourself of this it will be much easier to stay motivated in the difficult times.

Improving yourself, once you?ve acknowledged there is a problem, is actually quite simple. All it takes is one little effort every day. Focus on one aspect of your life or character you?d like to improve, and make it your mantra. Focus every activity, every interaction that day around that principal, and stick to it. You?ll feel great about yourself!

If you are not especially comfortable with technology, make it a point to explore and learn about one tech device, gadget, or service every week. You may be surprised at the world of functional and accessible tools available. It could be a new software program, an unfamiliar internet browser, or a handy app that could help you to stay organized and focused.

Don?t be afraid to complement other people on the things that make them great, even if he or she is a perfect stranger. Receiving a heartfelt compliment from someone you love is uplifting. But think about how wonderful it feels when someone who you do not even know comes-up to you and gives you a killer compliment.

Achieving lasting change in those areas that we seek to improve can be difficult, and if you?re looking for guidance, you?ve come to the right place! The most difficult part is deciding to start. So, start now with the suggestions mentioned in this article with your quest for self improvement. We wish you success in your journey!

I hope this has been useful for information on how to entice a man , of course you will discover on video itself at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzXUCGQ4eKo, why not visit now and check them out.

PFT: Chris Johnson compares himself to LeBron

Anthony HargroveAP

Regardless of what anyone thinks the 2009 NFC title game sideline video shows (or doesn?t show), it doesn?t conclusively demonstrate the identity of the person who utters the key words ?give me my money? after assistant head coach Joe Vitt tells member of the Saints defense that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre may have a broken leg.

Still, the league stridently believes, despite an inability to see the mouth, lips, face, or head of former Saints defensive end Anthony Hargrove when ?give me my money? is uttered, that Hargrove defintely said the words.? It would make much more sense for the league to simply claim that someone from the Saints defense said it, which constitutes general proof that someone on the Saints defense knew about the existence of a bounty on Brett Favre.

That?s precisely what NFL general counsel Jeff Pash was expected to say during a Friday appearance on PFT Live.? And that seems to be what he started to say when explaining the league?s interpretation.? But then it subtly changed.

?What that video tape rather clearly demonstrates is two things,? Pash said.? ?One, there was a program and it corroborates rather clearly that there was a program where a player could be rewarded for making a play that resulted in an injury to an opponent ? you were basically making that point during the break.? Second, it demonstrates Mr. Hargrove?s awareness of the program and his understanding that it existed, and it demonstrates that his statements to our investigators in early 2010 denying the program and saying there was nothing like that? in existence were false.? That is the basis on which the Commissioner imposed discipline on Mr. Hargrove.?

Assuming that it was defensive tackle Remi Ayodele who said ?give me my money? (and not, for example, some guy off camera who was trying to get his change from the hot dog vendor), Pash?s initial observation is correct.? His second point continues to depend, however, on a finding that Hargrove and no one else said, ?Give me my money.?? And the video simply does not prove that.

The flaw could be fatal to the league?s case against Hargrove, if/when the NFLPA files litigation advancing theories that allow a judge to get to the merits of the case.? The 16 exhibits produced by the NFL (which Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com has graded, one by one) contain no mention or suggestion or hint of Hargrove paying money in, taking money out, or otherwise being aware of the bounty program.? The only way the league can prove that Hargrove knew about the bounty program and that he in turn lied to investigators is to prove that Hargrove and no one else said, ?Give me my money.?

The declaration he submitted in April, contrary to the league?s interpretation of it, doesn?t contain an admission that Hargrove lied.? Instead, it shows that defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and assistant head coach Joe Vitt told him to say that there was no bounty program, and that Hargrove complied ? without commentary on whether what he was saying was the truth.? Pash?s comments strongly suggest that, if Hargrove didn?t say, ?Give me my money,? there?s no proof that Hargrove?s story to investigators was untrue.

Regarding the question of whether the league believes Saints players deliberately intended to injure opponents, Pash explained that the NFL never tries to determine intent.? ?We have always consistently, going back for decades, going back to when Pete Rozelle was Commissioner, not made intent a part of the disciplinary decision because you can?t read someone?s mind,? Pash said.? ?You can only look at the objective evidence.?

That?s fine.? But it appears in this case that the NFL is trying to read Hargrove?s mind.? And, in turn, to put words in his mouth.

At a time when Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma already has filed a defamation claim regarding the things the league has publicly said about his involvement in the situation, it wouldn?t be a shock if Hargrove eventually does the same thing.

Philadelphia Union Face Sporting KC At PPL Park Tonight

The Philadelphia Union receive a difficult test Saturday night when Sporting Kansas City visits PPL Park at 7 p.m. ET.

Jun 23, 2012 - The Philadelphia Union receive a difficult test Saturday night when Sporting Kansas City visits PPL Park at 7 p.m. ET. The match can be viewed on the Comcast Network.

Interim Union manager John Hackworth is quite impressed by Sporting Kansas City, which enters Saturday trailing D.C. United by one point in the MLS Eastern Conference standings.

"First off, I think they're one of the best teams in the league," Hackworth said during Wednesday's weekly press conference at PPL Park. "And I say that in a sense that, attacking wise, if there's someone in this league that's as dangerous as they are, we probably haven't seen it, at least on film. They're extremely dangerous, literally every time they get the ball over the halfway line. Matchups are always hard. They're strong. They're fast. There's some size there. So we have some challenges in front of us for sure."

The Union fell 1-0 last week to D.C. United in Hackworth's debut after replacing the departed Peter Nowak.

Arkansas Supreme Court strikes down execution law

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) ? The Arkansas Supreme Court struck down the state's execution law Friday, calling it unconstitutional.

In a split decision, the high court sided with 10 death row inmates who argued that, under Arkansas' constitution, only the Legislature can set execution policy. Legislators in 2009 voted to give that authority to the Department of Correction.

"It is evident to this court that the Legislature has abdicated its responsibility and passed to the executive branch, in this case the (Arkansas Department of Correction), the unfettered discretion to determine all protocol and procedures, most notably the chemicals to be used, for a state execution," Justice Jim Gunter wrote in the majority opinion.

Two justices of the seven-member court dissented, arguing that the correction department's discretion is not "unfettered" because it is bound by the federal and state constitutions that guard against cruel and unusual punishment.

"In addition, Arkansas is left no method of carrying out the death penalty in cases where it has been lawfully imposed," Justice Karen Baker wrote in the dissent. Special Justice Byron Freeland joined her.

The 2009 law says a death sentence is to be carried out by lethal injection of one or more chemicals that the director of the Department of Correction chooses. The law also says that in the event that the lethal injection law is found to be unconstitutional, death sentences will be carried out by electrocution, but that doesn't seem likely.

"The justices did not declare that the death penalty is unconstitutional in Arkansas or that lethal injection is unconstitutional," prisons spokeswoman Dina Tyler said. "What the court is talking about are the mechanics."

She said the correction department could not currently execute anyone in part because the court's decision got rid of the template for lethal injection procedures.

There are 40 men awaiting execution on Arkansas' death row. There aren't any pending executions, and the state hasn't put anyone to death since 2005, in part because of legal challenges like this one.

Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe said that at this point he doesn't plan to call a special session to address the court's ruling.

"The death penalty is still the law in Arkansas, but the Department of Correction now has no legal way to carry out an execution until a new statute is established," Beebe said in a statement.

Beebe said he hopes to have a proposed remedy in the next few months after meeting with the state's attorney general and legislative leaders.

Beebe has set several execution dates since he took office in 2007, but courts have stopped all of them, including one on March 16, 2010, for death row inmate Jack Harold Jones Jr.

On March 8, 2010, Jones sued the head of the correction department, challenging the state's 2009 execution law. A court halted his execution and nine other inmates later joined the suit, asking that the law be struck down.

The state, meanwhile, recently asked the court to free up several executions it had halted because of this lawsuit.

Josh Lee, an attorney for some of the death row inmates who challenged the law, declined to comment Friday.

During oral arguments last week, Lee said the state would have two options if the court found the law unconstitutional.

"The Legislature could either choose to stick with the 1983 statute, which everybody concedes is constitutional, or the Legislature could decide we want to amend it." Lee said last week.

The state adopted lethal injection as its method of capital punishment in 1983. There have been legal challenges to the way the state kills its condemned prisoners since then. In 2009, in the midst of one such legal battle, the state Legislature passed the law that the court struck down Friday.

Joseph Cordi, an attorney for the state, told the Supreme Court last week that he thought the state would fall back on the 1983 law if the court struck down the entire 2009 statute.

Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's spokesman Aaron Sadler said they respect the court's decision and plan to meet with clients about how to move forward in light of this decision.

Odd Alien Planets So Close Together They See 'Planetrise'

It is science fiction made fact: Astronomers have discovered two alien planets around the same star whose orbits come so close together that each rises in the night sky of its sister world like an exotic full moon.

The newfound planets are 1,200 light-years from Earth and an unprecedented find, researchers said. They differ greatly in size and composition but come within just 1.2 million miles (1.9 million kilometers) of each other, closer than any other pair of planets known, according to a new study.

One of the newly discovered alien planets, called Kepler-36b, appears to be a rocky "super-Earth" 4.5 times as massive as our planet. The other, Kepler-36c, is a gaseous, Neptune-size world about eight times as massive as Earth. The two planets meet up every 97 days in a conjunction that would make each dramatically visible in the other's sky.

?These two worlds are having close encounters,? said co-lead author Josh Carter, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, in a statement.

At their closest approach, the two planets are separated by five times the distance between the Earth and the moon. How such different bodies ended up in such similar orbits may be tough for current theories of planet formation and migration to explain, researchers said.

"This is unprecedented," co-lead author Eric Agol, of the University of Washington, told SPACE.com via email. "They are as different in density as Earth and Saturn (the highest and lowest density planets in our solar system), yet they are 30 times closer than any pair of planets in our solar system." [Gallery: The Strangest Alien Planets]

Strange neighbors

The two known planets in the Kepler-36 system ? which is located in the constellation Cygnus (The Swan) ? were detected by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope.

Kepler is staring continuously at more than 150,000 stars, watching for telltale brightness dips caused when planets cross in front of the stars from the telescope's perspective. Since its March 2009 launch, Kepler has flagged more than 2,300 potential alien planets; while only a small fraction have been confirmed to date, mission scientists think more than 80 percent of them will end up being the real deal.

Kepler-36c, which is about 3.7 times wider than Earth, likely has a rocky core surrounded by a substantial atmosphere filled with lots of hydrogen and helium, researchers said.

Kepler-36b, on the other hand, is a super-Earth just 1.5 times wider than our planet. Iron likely constitutes about 30 percent of its mass, water around 15 percent and atmospheric hydrogen and helium less than 1 percent, researchers said.

Though they're very different in size and makeup, the two planets travel on surprisingly similar paths around their host star. Kepler-36c orbits once every 16 days, at an average distance of 12 million miles (19 million km). Kepler-36b orbits each 14 days and sits about 11 million miles (18 million km) from the star.

Kepler-36b probably formed relatively close to the star, while Kepler-36c likely took shape farther out. Astronomers model large-scale migrations that can bring initially far-flung planets much closer together, but the peculiar Kepler-36 system may force some refinements, researchers said.

"These models rely on assumptions that will likely have to be 'tweaked' or refined to account for both b and c's proximity and compositional differences," Carter told SPACE.com via email. "The existence of Kepler-36 may help clarify or invalidate these assumptions."

Both planets are likely too hot to support life as we know it, with Kepler-36b probably sporting lava flows on its surface. They orbit roughly three times closer to their host star, known as Kepler-36a, than the hellishly hot planet Mercury does to our sun. And Kepler-36a is likely a bit hotter than our star, researchers said.

The researchers publish their results Thursday (June 21) in the journal Science.

An impressive sky scene

Every 97 days, Kepler-36b and c experience a conjunction that brings them within just 1.2 million miles (1.9 million km) of each other ? roughly five times the Earth-moon distance. This would be quite a sight for an observer on the surface of either planet.

"Planet c would appear roughly 2.5 times the size of the full moon when viewed from the surface of planet b.?Conversely, planet b would appear about the size of the full moon on planet c," Carter said.

"We can speculate on the appearance of planet c: It may appear slightly more purple that Neptune," he added. "The purple hue owes to absorption of red and yellow by sodium and potassium.?There could also be a slight brown tint owing to hazes of photo-disassociated methane."

Such dramatic vistas could well be around for many years to come, researchers said, for the orbits of Kepler-36b and c appear unlikely to change anytime soon.

"We are addressing this in a follow-up paper, but the short answer is that yes, these do appear to be stable on a long timescale," Agol said.

Microsoft Surface tablet may cost $599, have Wi-Fi only

Featured

4 hrs.

CookieJa

Are you your own worst enemy? If so, the following gadgets might be able to help you overcome some?relatively minor shortcomings. That is to... Read more

1 hr.

Sources cited by TheNextWeb say that the base price for a?Surface tablet will be $599 ? and the Intel-powered "Pro"?version will start at $999. Meanwhile, Bloomberg is reporting that the initial models will be Wi-Fi-only, rather than connecting to a wireless 3G or 4G network.

I reached out to Microsoft, but the company was unable to confirm either of the rumors. However, it's worth looking at why both are relatively likely.

(Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal, but that doesn't give us privileged information about Microsoft products and services, nor does it influence our opinion of them.)

First, the pricing. At the Surface unveiling, Microsoft announced that the tablets would be "priced competitively" with current tablet offerings, and that the ARM-based Surface, meant to compete with the iPad, would ship in 32GB and 64GB versions. Well, a 32GB Wi-Fi-only iPad costs, yes, $599. So that's definitely in line.?

But Microsoft said "competitive," and if Microsoft really?wants to compete with Apple, it probably has to undercut the iPad. So while the $599 is more than likely, it would be nice to see Microsoft enter the market aggressively, rather than launch high, then drop the price if (when?) sales are slow. Amazon didn't price its Kindle Fire high then drop it, it went on the cheap. Meanwhile, RIM priced its PlayBook very high, then dropped and dropped and dropped the price. Which company is holding its head high now?

As for a $999 Pro version, that's a bit more of a puzzlement. All Microsoft has said was that the pricing would be in line with current ultrabooks, but quick survey of current ultrabook pricing suggests a starting point of $699 or so. Admittedly, that's without a 64GB solid state drive, let alone 128GB, which the high-end Surface Pro will have, but these ultrabooks do have larger screens. So while $999 may not be a bad price for what Microsoft is offering, it seems a little high to compete with ultrabooks in general.

The Wi-Fi-only issue is far easier to wrap your head around. At the Surface event, Microsoft showed off only hardware that ran on Wi-Fi networks -- they said absolutely nothing about cellular 3G/4G?networking. They also announced that they'd have the basic Surface tablet out when Windows 8 launches, and the Pro version out?about?three months later. By showing off Wi-Fi-only?hardware and talking about its availability, they've all but formally confirmed that there won't be a cellular product "initially," which is all Bloomberg is saying.

So there you have it. If you're in the market for a Surface tablet,?don't expect a 3G/4G version at launch, and do?expect to pay around $599 for the entry-level unit. And if the price happens to be lower, that's money in your pocket.

How To Treat Alcohol and Drug Addiction

Article Directory :: Health & Fitness Articles

Other people consider that drug and alcohol use is not merely an occasional or recreational gratification. Continual use may lead to abuse. In carrying out a substance abuse prevention, it will depend on the individual's life situation. The only way to avoid abuse is not to use it anymore. One way of avoiding it is to make limitation of using it, including staying away from harmful drugs such as cocaine and heroin. If you or your loved ones undergo alcohol addiction and drug abuse you should consider alcohol and drug treatment.

One must gain knowledge about the side effects of alcohol and drugs. We must also know the chemical properties and hazards of the excessive use of drugs. Drugs such as Cocaine and Nicotine have chemical properties that make people addicted with it easily. Once addicted, it is never that easy to get out from it. People tend to use drugs for many reasons. Some people feel better of using alcohol and drugs. While others may consider it just to escape from their problems. A stable support network or outlet may help a certain addicted user to convince them to quit drugs.

Support groups assist people to realize that they are not alone in struggling to overcome abuse and addiction. Sometimes, people will undergo therapy at the therapist's office. Therapy is a great help of a rehabilitation center's overall treatment plan. Treatment options for drug abuse include an element of clinical therapy, according to National Institute of Drug Addiction. Group therapy gives the user a support network like non-medical support forums, such as AA, but with individual therapy, it will allow a therapist to give suggestions and alcohol and drug treatment plans based on a person's unique issues. In-patient care is sometimes utilized to treat drug abuse and addiction. The patient is in safe hands and cared for by trained professionals in a rehabilitation center. Benefits of in-patient treatment are distance to negative relationships along with inaccessibility of alcohol and drugs. In addition to this, rehabilitation center medication can be administered in a safe and controlled way. The drug user must make a recovery an everyday goal and not rest on past time or sobriety as a guarantee of future success. And one key to success is discipline to keeping clean and free from the drug addiction and alcohol addiction.

A Brief Look into How Data Recovery in Los Angeles Works ...

Most computer users have experienced major failure leading to data loss at least once in their lives. The fault may lie with defective hardware, such as a seriously scratched hard disk, or corrupted software, whether due to a particularly strong virus or worm, or a pre-existing software bug. Fortunately, data recovery is possible in most cases.

Computer data consists of files and sectors. The operating system reads the files, while the hard disk reads the sectors. A file system bridges these two computer data components. Think of a file system as a two-column table, at its simplest: one column has the file name, while the other has the sector numbers.

When you create a file, the file system searches for empty rows in the table and fills the columns with the necessary information. If you search for a file, the system looks up the file name and matches it with the hard disk?s sector numbers. When you delete a file, it doesn?t completely disappear; the file system simply marks the part of the table where that file used to be as ?available?.

Assuming there?s nothing wrong with the computer, a file can be recovered by manipulating the file system to ?read? a row and recover the file which occupied it. The disk may reuse the empty rows in the future, but this process takes time. If you don?t want files to be recovered for any reason, you can defragment your disk.

Otherwise, you need services for data recovery in Los Angeles for your critical files. Data loss usually occurs due to operating system failure; this may be solved by copying files to a separate disk, preferably a Live CD. If data loss occurs due to disk failure, the file system may be repaired, or, if the hard disk is physically damaged, the hardware is replaced. It?s possible to recover data without physical access to the affected drive; the drive can be linked to a computer in another location via Internet connection, and data recovery can take effect through certain software techniques.

However, don?t expect services for data recovery in Los Angeles to completely save corrupted files. This usually happens due to viruses, sector failure, or corrupted file systems. If the reason is a corrupt file system, file recovery is often possible by reading the file system information.

Before you cry over the files you may have lost forever, try to take advantage of companies that offer data recovery in Los Angeles first. Let them handle this delicate and difficult task for your peace of mind. For more information on data recovery, read tech-faq.com/how-to-recover-hard-drive-data.html.

High School Football Coach Faces Steroid Charges

A man who coached football at South County High School for several years, was most recently associated with the West Springfield High School football program and taught at Mountain View Alternative High School in Centreville was arrested on Tuesday in the Sully Plaza Shopping Center in Chantilly. He allegedly met his illegal steroid supplier there at about 1:30 p.m.??

Fairfax County Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit detectives received a tip in December 2011, and launched an investigation. After meticulous follow up, police arrested Jeffery Reagan, 43, of Bristow, Va., and charged him with possession with intent to distribute steroids and conspiracy to distribute steroids.

His alleged supplier was also arrested.? Jeremy Helbing, 35, of Leesburg was charged with distribution and conspiracy.

After the arrest, Fairfax detectives worked with Loudoun County narcotics detectives and went to Helbing?s home in Leesburg, where they uncovered numerous substances which are pending lab results.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has additional information to provide police, they are asked to contact the Organized Crime and Narcotics Unit at 703-802-2700 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

Steinberg Cubase 6.5

Steinberg Cubase has a long and storied history in the music industry, first appearing on the Atari ST more than two decades ago before migrating to Macs and PCs. The latest version, Cubase 6.5 ($499.99 direct), is a powerful, ultra-flexible recording environment. It's particularly well suited for MIDI composition with virtual synthesizers?and is, in our opinion, the smoothest of the major DAWs at this?although it's also a capable audio and post-production tool overall.

System Requirements and Copy Protection
For this review, I tested Cubase 6.5 on two machines: A quad-core Toshiba Qosmio 17.3-inch laptop with 6GB RAM and running Windows 7 SP1, and a quad-core Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch with 8GB RAM and running OS X 10.7.4. I also personally own older versions of Cubase (up to version 4) and have had no trouble getting them all running on various machines over the years; Cubase tends to just work in my experience, which is a good thing indeed.

Unlike Avid Pro Tools 10 ($699, 4.5 stars), Steinberg Cubase 6.5 is a full 64-bit app, which is a godsend when using plug-ins with large sample libraries. Another thing that's great about Cubase is its relative consistency when it comes to audio drivers (ASIO) and plug-ins (VST) over the years. This makes for easier compatibility with third-party hardware and software. As these are such widely used standards, you never have to wonder if you're using a particularly weird or untested combination.

Steinberg's copy protection scheme is more annoying than it needs to be. Cubase 6.5 uses a USB dongle, which automatically puts it at a disadvantage next to Cakewalk SONAR X1 Producer ($499, 3 stars) on the PC and Apple Logic Pro 9 ($199.99, 4.5 stars) on the Mac. Steinberg goes a step further, though, and uses eLicenser, which only works with Korg, reFX, and Arturia plug-ins. Most plug-ins requiring USB dongle protection, including those from Waves, EastWest, Avid, and iZotope, employ PACE iLok, a competing standard. If you buy Cubase 6.5 and plan on purchasing any major plug-ins, you'll end up with at least two USB keys, which isn't a situation you'll usually encounter when using other major sequencers. On a laptop with just two USB ports, such as with any MacBook Pro, it can be a huge annoyance?especially since many audio interfaces and other peripherals prohibit the use of a USB hub in their user manuals, and since moving the laptop with the dongle attached risks breakage each time.

Another downside: While you can buy SONAR X1 and Logic Pro as online downloads, Cubase 6.5 requires a retail store or mail-order purchase?plus an optical drive in your machine. That rules out all recent Ultrabook PCs and MacBook Airs, at least without an external optical drive attached.

User Interface and Workflow
With all that out of the way, let's dive into the main program. Cubase 6.5's strong MIDI roots are evident right from the beginning. The Key Editor is simply wonderful. You can do just about anything during playback, including switching editing tools, deleting notes, and adjusting other notes. The Inspector offers transpose, quantize, length, and other useful tools that are easier to access here than in competing sequencers. A lane across the bottom makes it virtually instantaneous to edit volume or other MIDI control data. The floating Transport Bar is fully customizable; you can pop in or out individual modules as needed, and unlike with SONAR X1, working on a 1366-by-768-pixel laptop screen is actually possible.

By switching between cursor tools using the number keys, and by using Cubase?s various shortcuts that make workflow more quickly, I find it easier to play in, lay down, edit, and arrange MIDI clips with Cubase more than any other. Dedicated buttons let you turn scrolling during playback on and off, and even whether you want the view to stop scrolling when you start editing. Just about anything you can do to a note is intuitive.

Cubase 6.5's Score Editor is another winner, with enough notation tools that many people could get by with this program alone and not need a separate notation program. In addition to comprehensive symbol support, it also supports lyrics, drum notes, guitar tabs, and lead sheets, and can import and export XML files. The Drum Editor and List Editor also do their job well for editing rhythm and MIDI events, respectively, though the main Key Editor is so good that I rarely find myself bringing these windows up.

Growing pains for MacBook Pro's new Retina display

23 hrs.

Everyone is excited about the just-announced MacBook Pro and its high-resolution screen, but there may be a few bumps in the road before it's as "magical" as its Retina display brethren, the iPad and iPhone. The OS X desktop is a considerably more complicated and varied environment than iOS, and early reports suggest early adopters might face a slightly uneven experience.

The complications arise, ironically, because of Apple's decision to hide the complications of a higher resolution from the user. Normally, if you were to double the density of pixels on a display, the result would be that everything would be displayed at half the size. Each of the letters in this sentence would still be around six or seven pixels wide, but the pixels themselves would be much smaller ? so, then, would be the letters. The result: tiny text, tiny buttons, and way too much screen real estate.

In order to fix this, Apple had to do some fancy behind-the-scenes footwork while avoiding mention of the actual new resolution (above). And while on iOS it was comparatively?easy for them to standardize requirements for apps, things are a bit more difficult on a laptop. The techniques Apple has chosen, described in greater detail by the team at?Anandtech, are smart and effective, but involve a bit of trickery for which?not every application and website is prepared.

The result? Websites look great in Safari, but (as of this writing) highly pixellated in Chrome (a new?pre-release version of the browser reportedly fixes this). And some?games, for instance "Diablo III," let you select the highest resolution available, while others don't even detect it. And who can say what will happen with the myriad programs available for download all over the net, many of which don't have graphics teams to address these issues? For power users, it could be something of a minefield.

That's not to say people should think twice about buying one of the new laptops if they feel so inclined. But as has often been the case with first-generation Apple products, there are a few hiccups to work out, so the first month or two may be be marred by occasional inconsistencies. Unless, of course, you decide to migrate to Apple's Retina-ready apps in order to smooth things out ? as Apple surely?hopes many?will do.

PFT: Jenkins reports to Cowboys' camp

Miami Heat v Boston Celtics - Game FourGetty Images

For a change, the initial reports regarding the value of a big-money contract mesh with the real numbers.

We had the details Friday of tight end Rob Gronkowski?s new contract.? The official figures are now in, and they reflect what originally was believed.

The six-year extension creates an eight-year deal that amounts to, in reality, a four-year deal with a series of four one-year team options thereafter.

Gronkowski replaces the $1.23 million he was due to earn over the final two years of his rookie contract with the same base salaries and workout bonuses in 2012 and 2013, plus a signing bonus of $8 million, fully-guaranteed compensation of $4 million in 2014, and $5 million in 2015 pay that is guaranteed for injury only for now, and that becomes fully guaranteed if he?s on the roster five days after the Super Bowl that ends the 2014 season.

After the fourth year, the Pats have to decide whether to pay Gronkowski an option bonus of $10 million, which the team has to decide whether to exercise by the end of the 2015 league year.? As Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal pointed out on Friday, the Pats have agreed not to pass on the option and then use the franchise or transition tag to keep him around for another season at what likely would be a much lower figure than $10 million.

So Gronkowski either will become an unrestricted free agent after four seasons, or he?ll get $10 million plus $2.25 million in base salary and a workout bonus of $250,000 and $31,250 for each game that he appears on the active roster, for a total possible haul in 2016 alone of $13 million.

The keys to the ultimate duration of the deal could be the cap numbers.? At very low figures of $2.66 million and $2.75 million in 2012 and 2013, respectively, the number moves to $5.4 million in 2014 and then to $8.65 million in 2015.

That makes Gronkowski a candidate for an extension or a restructuring in 2015, in order to drive the cap figure down.

Of course, that would serve only to increase the cap numbers of $6.65 million, $7 million, $11 million, and $12 million over the final four years of the contract, making the final two seasons at base salaries of $8 million and $9 million even less likely to ever be fulfilled.

Still, given that he was facing only $1.23 million over the next two seasons and up to two seasons thereafter of the tight end franchise tag, Gronkowski has emerged with a large bird in the hand, in lieu of two in a bush that he wouldn?t have gotten close enough to catch for at least two more years, maybe four.
